I decided to upgrade the interior of my senny from the old plastic dash and wool seats with the leather and walnut dash from a '90 24v Senator.

The process was logical if hard work, and was done over 2 evenings and a full day. Bloody hard work!

I had a few problems which caused me grief. So in no particular order:

Removing front seats

The front seats were a pain to remove on my last Senator too due to the tightness of how they are screwed in. The way to remove them is to put an Alan key in the screw, and then insert the other end of the key into a piece of copper pipe, and use that to turn the key.

Haynes Errors

The pre-facelift Senator isn't covered in the Haynes, so some instructions aren't quite right, such as the removal screws of the centre console and facia, so be warned!

Additionally you don't have to remove the heater matrix or the fuse box. You just need to loosen the fuse box and push it through the facia.

Relays

There are a number of relays behind the fuse box on a metal frame, which is attached to the facia and sub frame. This is awkard to remove and is not obvious at first that it needs removing in the first place.

Glove Box

With air con cars, it's a pain removing and then refitting the glove box, as there's not much room behind there with the air con pipes and wiring harness. A tight squeeze!

Air Direction Controls

The air direction controls (feet to head and head to windscreen) are controlled using little metal loops attached to the fan and the controllers. These are a pain to get off and refit correctly - suggest removing them when the switches are in all the way in or out, as they don't get the right tension otherwise. The rods also get caught on the wiring harness if not replaced correctly.

Wiring Harness

This great big thick 2 inch mass of wires comes from behind the glove box to the fuse box, via behind the instrument panel. It will probably be attached to the facia you are removing, so the holding tabs or wire will need careful cutting. On refitting, it becomes a big problem as it gets in the way of every time you try to refit the facia or panel. I suppose the correct way is to refix the harness back to the replacement facia, but this is a two man job. Patience required!

Speakers wires

These can often get lost in the mass of the wiring harness. It's a good idea to find and put these wires in situ and tape them to the facia, to stop them disappearing when you are fighting with the harness

Various wiring blocks

Mark or number each wiring block you disconnect for reference, and ideally take a photograph of things. Wish I had, as I've not reconnected something, and my cruise now don't work!

Auto box strip

On the auto boxes there's a small plastic strip. It is very fragile and snaps easily.
