Here are a few of the Senator's rivals. I have a fascination for a lot barges made around the 1990 mark and have a soft spot for quite a few of them. Needless to say I won't part with my Senator though!

They are listed in the "Colin would like one" order.

Alfa Romeo 164 (1988-98)

Alfa Romeo 164

Boxy looks, but superb interiors (love the electric buttons on the console!) and a good 'drivers' car. The engines by comparison are far more powerful than Senator ones and I would love to get my hands on one.

Lexus LS400 (1990-2001)

Lexus LS400

Staggering ownership and running costs (75p per mile!) spoil this goliath of a barge.

BMW 7-Series (1987-95)

BMW 7-Series

Very high quality. Very high prices. Drug dealer image, but fantastic cars in their own right. Only real minus is their ownership costs

Citreon XM (1989-2000)

Citreon XM

Looks silly, not a luxury car really and very expensive suspension system to repair. Having said that I do have a soft spot for this beast just due to its sheer individuality.

Audi 80/100 (1987-91)

Audi 80/100

A car which developed into a better one later. Still see plenty of these on the road.

Ford Granada (Scorpio) (1985-95)

Ford Granada (Scorpio)

My dad used to have one of these - very good in 2.8 or 2.9 litre models - bag of bolts in smaller engine sizes.

Rover 800 (1991-99)

Rover 800

Oh deary me. The reason why Rover got into so much trouble in the 1990's. Rubbish build and duff electrics. Shame as they look quite nice.

Volvo 760 (1982-90)

Volvo 760

Boring, dodgy steering, ten-a-penny and under powered.
